The division's research relates to logistics and supply chain management, where research is conducted in e.g. purchasing, business networks, supply chain strategy, operations planning and control, material handling and freight transport, with digitalisation, circularity and resilience as important drivers and enablers. Our goal is to perform high quality research and education at bachelor, master and doctoral levels. We accomplish this by contributing to improvements in all our research areas, in theory as well as in practice. We focus mainly on empirical research in close interaction with industry.

The position: We are looking for a highly motivated doctrocal student in in-plant logistics to join the Division of Supply and Operations Management at the Department of Technology Management and Economics, Chalmers University of Technology. The successful candidate will engage in a research project that involves cutting-edge technology and industrial application in successful manufacturing companies.

About the research project : The research project in which the doctroral student will be working focuses on data-driven, automated in-plant logistics utilising AGVs/AMRs (Automated Guided Vehicles/Autonomous Mobile Robots). Specifically, the project will develop knowledge to support planning, implementation, operational management, and adaptations of AGV/AMR systems. The research focuses on the application of AGV-/AMR-systems from a logistics perspective.

The project involves close cooperation with several companies – both manufacturing companies, looking to develop their in-plant logistics processes, and providers of enabling technology, e.g. sensors and AI for data capture and analysis, respectively.
